The Ultimate Back- Up Plan

Another “specialty feature” by Reproductive Endocrinologist and Infertility specialist Dr. Hirshfeld-Cytron.  This time she will be letting us know the basics on when and how to bank…and I’m not talking money ladies!  Although, it can end up being the best investment a woman can make.

Although the Jennifer Aniston movie, Back Up Plan, involved using donor sperm, the true back up plan for woman is egg freezing.

Recently, American Society of Reproductive Medicine, stated that egg freezing is no longer experimental.  This is because the freezing technology has significantly improved.

This is particularly true for young woman (< 35 years old), where clinical studies suggest similar outcomes between fresh and frozen eggs.

Even if “40 is the new 30” in regards to career and approach to life; reproductively this is not the case.

The fact is woman experience peak fertility in their 20’s.  Fertility declines in late 20’s and again in the late 30’s.  In addition, egg quality decreased and miscarriage rates are twice as high in older woman (>39 years old).

Professional woman attempting to control all aspects of their life have a chance to also “control” the reproductive clock by taking proactive action.

It is important to know that egg freezing capacity is not the same at every clinic.  It is essential to ask key questions to your reproductive endocrinologist.

  • How do they do egg freezing?
  • How many a year does the clinic do?
  • When did they start egg freezing?
  • What is their success with egg freezing?
  • How many children have they helped create from frozen eggs?

I am proud to be a part of a group that has the most experience in the Midwest with egg freezing.

Remember egg freezing is the ultimate “Back Up Plan”, as it allows woman to “control” the reproductive clock in a way we haven’t been able to before.
